We’ve had lockdown skin, ‘maskne’, an unexpected heat wave and now we are heading into the autumnal winds- it’s fair to say 2020 has not been kind to our skin! With all the upheaval, it is no surprise that our skin can easily react to these changes. But that’s what Chelsee Lewis, award-winning skincare expert of 24 years, is a connoisseur in. Chelsee has worked with some of the most renowned people and product houses in the industry while in 2014 she founded the Chelsee Lewis Beauty Company, situated in Mayfair.

Repairing Sun Damage
We all love to soak up some rays, and it certainly does make us feel good! But visible ageing is 80% caused by sun damage with the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays being the main culprit. Many assume that cloudy days or not getting burnt means your skin will not get damaged but daily exposure can ultimately target your skins natural barrier, attacking collagen which over time equates to fine lines, wrinkles and dryness. This can even lead to skin issues such as dark spots and pigmentation.
Chelsee suggests chemical peels, which is a treatment using topical acid to break down minuscule layers of the skin to minimise the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. It will show brightness after just one treatment (although a course of 6 is always recommended as well as regular maintenance for best results).

Lines and wrinkles
As we get older, our skin naturally becomes thinner, drier, with less elasticity, as the collagen begins to break down. This leads to fine lines which eventually turn to wrinkles on the skin. But of course, this is only natural! Facial expressions, such as smiling, frowning, or squinting, lead to the development of lines as well as diet, sleep, hydration and stress levels. It is normal and healthy to have movement and creases on the face and women look beautiful with them- but some hydration can help give the skin a natural glow.
Chelsee recommends microneedling, otherwise known as Dermapen, which promotes scar-less healing and natural collagen reproduction, similar to fractional laser treatment, IPL laser resurfacing and chemical peels but without the side effects and downtime. It can effectively treat hard to reach places in a very thorough way, (e.g around the eyes, nose and lips). It is a quick treatment which sends skin into a small trauma which alternatively plumps it up.

Acne is not something that can happen in just your teenage years. Some adults continue to get acne well into their 30s, 40s, and even 50s. But what causes adult acne? Well, fluctuating hormones and hormonal factors related to estrogen and progesterone are common in female acne, but stress, family history and some medications can cause acne too.
Chelsee addresses adult acne through her classic signature facial- Le Visage– which works with eliminating congestion and includes Cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is a freezing device used to chill the skin to minus temperatures making the blood vessels constrict, increasing blood flow, reduce inflammation and increasing microcirculation. This treatment also has a tightening effect, whilst the skin will be left feeling awakened and refreshed!

The purifying qualities of the ichthyol mineral remove imperfections, while calendula and azulene soothe the irritation associated with breakouts. Rich in anti-bacterial, antiseptic, and healing ingredients, this solution helps speed the healing process of breakouts for clearer, healthier skin.Embed from Getty Images
Free Radical Damage/Environmental Damage
We are all battling free radicals and environmental damage, particularly if you live in a busy town or large city. Pollution, cigarette smoke, radiation, and even the chemicals in your household cleaners generate free radicals that exist in the atmosphere and can accelerate the ageing process. For environmental damage Chelsee uses a brightening peel on her clients on an ongoing basis, which not only deals with pigmentation (see above) but breaks down pollution in the skin that may be embedded into the pores.

Blocked Pores and Dull Skin
Without moisture, the skin becomes dry and dehydrated, which can leave it looking dull. Often this can be in combination with blocked pores which are the result of dead skin cells getting trapped instead of being shed into the environment.
Chelsee recommends the 3d Hydra2Facial, a treatment that combines not one but seven different technologies. This is a step-up from the normal HydraFacial, and includes HydroPeel, a deep cleanse, exfoliation, oxygenation, hydration, skin lifting, skin tightening and fire and ice.

Elastin, a fibrous protein found in the dermal layer of your skin, is responsible for your skin’s elasticity. This is what keeps your skin firm, smooth and glowing. Loss of skin elasticity is known as elastosis, and just like a rubber band, the skin will snap back.
As we get older, our skin naturally loses elasticity. Other environmental factors such as sleep, stress and health don’t help the elasticity, but it can be improved.
Chelsee recommends 3D HIFU, a non-surgical treatment using high intensity focused ultrasound to lift and tighten loose or sagging skin on the neck and face without any downtime. The science of 3d HIFU focuses energy to stimulate the deep support layers of the new skin without causing damage to the skin surface. This stimulates the growth of new collagen resulting in a lifted, firmer and toned appearance of the skin.
